The Simple Golf Swing – Review 2
October 28th, 2011 by Geoff
I thought it would be a good idea to give you another viewpoint of The Simple Golf Swing.
So I asked a friend of mine that I let borrow it (which is not really playing fair, but he did buy it for himself after testing it out which I think makes things OK again!)
Matthew was a fairly good prospect to test out the Simple Golf Swing as:-
- he’s a bit of a cynical old git
- (reluctantly) he is a bit better than me at golf
- ok, quite a lot better than me
So over to Matthew for his view:-
Matthew’s Review Of The Simple Golf Swing
I first came across the Simple Golf Swing when Geoff mentioned it to me. I’d never heard of it before, and neither had anyone I mentioned it to either.
“So much for this” I was already thinking – it’s not exactly got Luke Donald’s name stamped on it!
It was also one of those download books which I don’t like much at all. Yes it means you can buy it online and read it immediately – but it also means you can’t buy The Simple Golf Swing in a normal bookshop, or even on Amazon.
I printed it out anyway, but I decided later that I prefer the videos that come with it.
TIP: If you want a paper copy of the book, do like I did. Put the Simple Golf Swing pdf file on a CD and take it to your local print shop. They will print it out in top quality print, and can even bind it for you like a proper book (they call it saddle stitched I think). It looks fantastic and much better than you could do at home!
So What’s Inside The Simple Golf Swing
Well it’s basically a set of army drills. Not that they teach golf in the army, but that’s the best comparison I could think of.
The Simple Golf Swing drills are pictured clearly in the diagrams, and well explained. You may find the videos or the book easier to understand – for me, I preferred the videos.

So, you study the Simple Golf Swing drills, and you dedicate a few minutes 2 or 3 times a week to repeating them.
Dead easy to do. But like anything that helps you, pushing yourself to actually do it is the hardest part.
But this is not like trying to get fit or anything. You only need to make yourself do the golf drills for a few weeks. The author says 2 weeks, but let’s be realistic here and say 4-6 weeks.
Unless you’re a fairly new golfer in which case you will probably see big results much faster. I’m not, so I can’t really judge on that.
Does The Simple Golf Swing Work?
I reluctantly have to say yes. If you’re not already a pro golfer, and you can stick to the plan for a few weeks, then you should be able to drop a few strokes off your game.
How many strokes totally depends on how good you are now.
I’ve been playing quite regularly for years. I’m not great, I usually hit in the high 80′s for 18. I’ve read the books (haven’t we all), bought a few gadgets, and had a bit of expensive coaching from a club pro.
But I planned out my time, setting 3 specific appointments in my diary each week. I stuck to the Simple Golf Swing drills as described for the 6 weeks (Geoff’s idea).
Then I compared my pre and post scoresheets. I’m playing 3-4 strokes better, and can feel why too. I’m hitting consistently straighter, and a little further too. But I can also feel a bit more clearly what I did wrong when I don’t hit a perfect shot, and that’s pretty promising for my future game.
Why Choose The Simple Golf Swing?
For me, I’d choose The Simple Golf Swing because it’s pretty straightforward. And it worked for me.
The hardest part is being disciplined enough to actually do the drills to get better. But if you’ve ever forced yourself to hit a couple of hundred balls at the driving range week after week, you shouldn’t have a problem with 10-15 minutes a few times a week!

Any Problems With The Simple Golf Swing
The author, David Nevogt, says you can drop 7 strokes from your average in a week or two. I may be wrong but I think that would only be possible if you’re hitting 100-110+.
So you may not see such dramatic results. But heck, dropping even a couple of strokes for less than the price of just one golf coaching session with a PGA Pro – The Simple Golf Swing is a no brainer for me.
But that said, I note David does give a pretty generous 60 day guarantee. So if you don’t see your game improve, you can even get a refund. Can’t complain there.
